What to Expect |
This is a quick guide to what you can expect when you install one of the satellite TV for PC programs out there. These notes are based on one of the most popular programs, Satellite TV For PC, although there are many similar services out there. Check out my products section for other options.
Here's the window I see when I run my software:
It doesn't look too exciting at the moment (which was one of the only negative comments I had about this program) but just wait a few steps and you'll see it come to life.
The next step is to choose a station you want to watch. Depending on which software you opt for, you can choose stations in different ways. This program lets me browse channels by country, which is a fast way to find channels in your language. So I choose a region from the TV Stations menu like this:
In this case, I've chosen the UK stations (which is where I live). You can watch all of the stations listed no matter where you live. So if I want to I can watch say the channels in the Egypt group - or stations from anywhere else. After I've chosen a country I get a long list of channels I can watch that looks like this:
This is typical of all the software I tested. You get a long list of stations to choose from. Sometimes the name is self explanatory (eg. ABC News) but other times the only real way to find out what the channel is about is to double click the channel name and see what's there. I call this CHANNEL HUNTING!
Channel Hunting is the real fun part. And it only takes a moment to evaluate each channel to see if it's something you'll want to watch again. So I double-click a station I like the sound of:
I've hopped onto the E-Music television station, an MTV style station that has some great music videos playing all day. Great! The video starts to play in a medium-sized window. But if I hit the 'full screen' button, I get a good quality full screen video.
So this is basically what you can expect with satellite TV on your PC. You install the software, and then go exploring the channels that are available. You'll find some that don't work, some that are really bizarre, some that make you laugh but you'll also find some highly entertaining or educational stations you'll want to watch whenever you get the time.
Good luck and happy station hunting!
